Reviewing Assessment at Uplands

In response to the Rochford Review and removal of P-Scales, Uplands played a key role in a Research and Innovation Group establishedup by Swindon Teaching School and Swindon Borough Council to review best practice from Special Schools around the country and develop a model of assessment which truly enables all of our learners to make the best possible progress.

As part of this work we asked our students, staff and parents what they felt were the most important things to learn about and the most appropriate things to track progress in. As a result we would truly be sure that we could 'measure what we value and value what we measure'. 

The responses from our parents fitted in exactly with the views of our students and staff and supported the findings of the Rochford Review that any measure of progress for our young people should reflect much more than just progress in literacy and numeracy.

As a result we have developed an approach to assessing progress which really does enable us to measure what we value, details of which will be published here shortly.
